Ahead of counting day, Maithili Thakur had expressed complete confidence and emotional fulfilment from her brief campaign journey.

“I don’t think even for a second about winning or losing. These 30 days have given me so much satisfaction. I feel prepared to live among the people and serve them,” she said in an interview.

She described contesting the election as “the best decision of my life”, saying that the experience of meeting people daily taught her more than any book ever could.

Driven by Culture, Inspired by Leadership

Thakur has often said that her roots in folk music shaped her desire to stay connected with Bihar. Before joining politics, she believed her songs were her way of serving the state’s culture.

In an earlier interaction, she shared:

“I want to carry forward the culture of my region. If politics gives me the opportunity to serve my people, nothing would be more important.”

She also revealed that she had no interest in politics until a few years ago. Listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whom she calls her “favourite leader”, changed the direction of her life.

“PM Modi is an inspiration to the youth. I am fortunate to work under his leadership,” she said.

Thakur’s entry has brought fresh energy to the BJP’s youth outreach. Her popularity among young voters, cultural influence, and grassroots interactions are being seen as factors contributing to her early lead in Alinagar.

With exit polls already predicting a strong performance for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) statewide, her lead further strengthens the party’s grip in several key constituencies.
