‘Disappointed and Angry’: England Fans Voice Frustration After Perth Ashes Test
Perth, Australia – England fans in Perth have expressed a mix of frustration and disappointment following the opening Ashes Test, with some traveling thousands of miles for what has turned out to be a disappointing start.
Speaking to BBC Sports Editor Dan Roan, one fan said bluntly, “Disappointed, angry. Yesterday they showed no care. I have spent a lot of money. Feeling angry, disappointed. We are better than that. I want a little bit more fight and smartness. I have always wanted to do the Ashes for years. I thought this was the one to do. I am just absolutely devastated. I feel I have been let down.”
Other supporters, however, were more forgiving of the team’s performance. “Definitely not angry,” one fan said. “A little bit down that we gave in so easily, but we have time to enjoy ourselves the next few days now. A few things planned.”
Another fan added perspective on the players’ efforts: “They’re sportspeople. They don’t have an obligation to make my holiday enjoyable. I am sure they want to win as much as we do. I don’t think it’s a matter of trying hard or not trying hard.”
The comments reflect a spectrum of emotions among England supporters, from disappointment and anger at the team’s lackluster start to understanding that international cricket tours are as much about resilience as they are about results.
As the Ashes series continues, fans will be hoping the team can regain form and show the grit expected of one of cricket’s most storied rivalries.
