FIR registered against UP Congress chief Ajay Rai over alleged abusive remarks against PM Modi

An FIR has been registered against Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) chief Ajay Rai in Mahoba district over allegations that he made abusive and objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a political event held on May 22. The complaint, lodged by a BJP worker, led police to name Rai along with several Congress supporters and unidentified individuals in the case.

As per the complaint, Ajay Rai had visited Mahoba to attend a local Congress programme and meet the family of a NEET aspirant who was allegedly abducted and assaulted. It is alleged that during the event, he used derogatory language against the Prime Minister, a video of which later went viral on social media, sparking a political row.

The FIR also mentions charges related to public disturbance, with allegations that Rai’s convoy of supporters caused inconvenience in the area. Police have confirmed that the case has been registered at Kotwali Nagar police station and an investigation is currently underway.

The controversy has triggered a sharp political reaction in Uttar Pradesh, with BJP leaders strongly condemning the remarks and accusing the Congress of lowering the tone of political debate. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath termed the comments “unacceptable” and said they reflect the opposition’s frustration ahead of key political developments.

On the other hand, Ajay Rai has rejected all allegations, calling the viral video fabricated and claiming it has been generated using AI technology. He has also stated that he will file a police complaint over the matter.

The incident has further escalated the ongoing political confrontation between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress in Uttar Pradesh, intensifying the atmosphere ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
