Fuel Prices Surge: What Are the New Petrol and Diesel Rates After the Hike?

India has witnessed a fresh increase in petrol and diesel prices as oil marketing companies revised fuel rates amid rising global crude oil costs. The latest hike has come after several months of relatively stable fuel prices, putting renewed pressure on household budgets and transport costs across the country.

According to official updates, petrol and diesel prices have been increased by approximately ₹3 per litre in major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. This marks one of the most significant revisions in recent months as international oil markets remain volatile due to geopolitical tensions and supply concerns.

In Delhi, petrol is now priced at around ₹97.77 per litre, while diesel stands at approximately ₹90.67 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol has crossed the ₹104 per litre mark, with diesel also seeing a similar upward revision. Prices continue to vary across states depending on VAT and local taxes.

Experts say the hike is largely driven by rising crude oil prices in the global market, which have surged due to supply disruptions and ongoing geopolitical instability. India, which imports a large share of its crude oil requirements, remains highly sensitive to such global fluctuations.

Economists warn that if crude oil prices remain elevated, further fuel price adjustments may follow in the coming weeks. This could also lead to a rise in transportation costs and inflationary pressure on essential goods.

Consumers have been advised to regularly check updated fuel rates before refuelling, as prices are revised daily at 6 AM by oil marketing companies.
