Jaipur Dumper Rampage: 14 Dead, CM Bhajan Lal Orders Action After Horror Crash

A speeding dumper truck driven by an allegedly intoxicated driver ploughed into at least 17 vehicles along New Loha Mandi Road in Jaipur’s Harmada area on Monday afternoon, killing 14 people including two girls aged five and seven and injuring 12 more, three of them critically. The truck, identified as RJ‑14 GP 8724, lost control while travelling at over 100 km/h and dragged victims for nearly 300 meters before colliding with a stationary trailer and coming to a stop. The driver, Kalyan Meena of Viratnagar, was arrested and is receiving treatment; he allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol twice before the incident. In response to the catastrophe, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma ordered a high‑level review of transport and traffic enforcement, suspended several transport and police officials for failing to prevent such a heavy vehicle from entering a no‑entry zone during peak hours, and called for stricter drunk‑driving checks and removal of road obstructions. The Jaipur Bench of the Rajasthan High Court has also sought a detailed report by November 6 on implementation of the state’s Road Safety Policy, black‑spot correction and vehicle inspection protocols following the incident.
