Air Marshal Jitendra Mishra has taken on a completely new responsibility after a distinguished career in the Indian Air Force. The former chief of the Western Air Command has been appointed as the first full-time CEO of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which manages the Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya.

Mishra played a crucial leadership role during Operation Sindoor, when India carried out military strikes following the Pahalgam terror attack. During his tenure, the Western Air Command was responsible for operations along India’s western frontier.

Mishra has also spoken publicly about the role of systems such as the S-400 air-defence system during the operation and claimed that Indian forces inflicted significant damage on Pakistani military assets. Pakistan has disputed several of these claims, and independent verification of some battlefield assessments remains limited.

A veteran fighter pilot and experienced military commander, Mishra has served across several important defense assignments and has thousands of hours of flying experience. He was also awarded the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal for distinguished service.

Now, his challenge is very different. As Ram Mandir Trust CEO, Mishra will oversee the temple’s growing administrative operations, coordination, and long-term management as visitor numbers and the scale of the Ayodhya project continue to expand.

His appointment comes at a crucial time for the trust, amid growing administrative responsibilities and controversy surrounding alleged donation theft. The move marks a striking transition—from commanding India’s western air defense to managing one of the country’s most prominent religious institutions.
