Legendary Bollywood Icon Dharmendra Passes Away at 89

Mumbai, November 24, 2025 – Indian cinema has lost one of its greatest legends. Veteran actor Dharmendra, fondly known as the “He-Man of Bollywood,” passed away at the age of 89 after prolonged health complications. The iconic star had been in and out of Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai over the past several days and was recently discharged to continue recovering at home.

Dharmendra’s family and close industry friends had been visiting frequently during his treatment. Doctors confirmed that he was discharged last week, with his family taking full care at their residence. “Dharmendra was discharged at 7:30 am today. His family is taking care of him at home. We pray for his smooth recovery,” Dr. Pratit Samdani had said after the discharge.

However, concerns about his fragile health persisted. On Monday afternoon, Hema Malini and Esha Deol were seen outside a crematorium, prompting widespread grief among fans across the country.

In the days following his return home, emotions ran high within the family. Sunny Deol, visibly distressed, expressed frustration at photographers crowding outside their house. Folding his hands, he said, “Aap logon ko sharam aani chahiye… Aapke ghar mein maa-baap hain, bachche hain…” highlighting the family’s request for privacy during a difficult time.

Dharmendra leaves behind an extraordinary legacy built over six decades. His unforgettable performances in classics such as Ayee Milan Ki Bela, Phool Aur Patthar, Aaye Din Bahar Ke, Seeta Aur Geeta, Raja Jani, Jugnu, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Dost, Sholay, Pratiggya, Charas, and Dharam Veer cemented his place as one of Indian cinema’s most versatile and beloved actors.

Despite his age and health challenges, Dharmendra remained active in the film industry. His next appearance is set to be in the war drama Ikkis, starring Agastya Nanda, keeping his legacy alive for future generations.

Tributes have been pouring in from across Bollywood. Stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan had visited him recently, reflecting the deep respect and affection he commanded within the fraternity.

Dharmendra’s passing marks the end of an era. His charisma, warmth, and unforgettable screen presence will continue to inspire audiences and actors alike.
