3 Women From MP Travelled to Mumbai, Stayed in Lodges and Changed Their Look to Steal; Unique Gang Busted

Mumbai Police have busted a women’s gang allegedly involved in thefts at crowded markets across the city. Three women from Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh have been arrested in connection with the case.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sonam Baneri (37), Anmol Jagveer Singh Sisodia (27), and Shweta Sisodia (27). According to the police investigation, the three women would travel from Madhya Pradesh to Mumbai and stay at a lodge before allegedly carrying out thefts in crowded marketplaces.

What caught the attention of investigators was the gang’s unusual modus operandi. Police said the women would change their appearance after reaching Mumbai and wear dirty and worn-out clothes while moving around crowded markets. The apparent intention was to avoid attracting attention and appear less suspicious in busy areas.

According to police officials, the women generally travelled in unreserved train compartments to reach Mumbai. After arriving in the city, they would reportedly stay at a lodge and visit different markets to identify crowded locations where they could allegedly target unsuspecting shoppers.

The investigation began after a series of theft incidents were reported in the Andheri area. The DN Nagar Police started examining the cases and used technical investigation methods to track suspicious mobile numbers and movements.

The investigation eventually led police to the three women, following which they were arrested.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly claimed that this was their first theft. However, police officials suspect that the women may have been involved in other similar incidents. Investigators are now checking their previous movements and records to determine whether they were connected to theft cases in Mumbai or elsewhere.

The investigation is linked to a theft involving approximately ₹3.75 lakh. Police are also trying to determine whether other members were part of the alleged network and whether the arrested women were involved in additional cases.

The case has drawn attention because of the unusual strategy allegedly adopted by the group. From travelling in unreserved train compartments to staying in lodges and changing their appearance before entering crowded markets, investigators believe the women had developed a specific method to avoid suspicion.

The police investigation is still underway, and officials are examining the possible criminal history of the accused as well as their links to other theft cases.
