NPCI Launches UPI One World, Enabling Foreign Visitors to Pay Seamlessly Across India
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced UPI One World, a new initiative that allows foreign travellers to make digital payments across India using the country’s popular UPI network.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has rolled out UPI One World, a new payment solution designed to let international visitors transact digitally with ease while travelling in India. The initiative extends the reach of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), enabling foreigners to make cashless payments at shops, restaurants, hotels, and tourist destinations just like local residents.
UPI One World allows foreign nationals to access a prepaid payment instrument linked to the UPI ecosystem, removing the need for carrying large amounts of cash or relying solely on international cards. The system is aimed at boosting convenience, enhancing financial inclusion for visitors, and strengthening India’s position as a digital payments leader.
UPI has already transformed domestic transactions by offering instant, secure, and low-cost payments across banks and fintech platforms. With UPI One World, NPCI seeks to expand that success to international travellers, particularly ahead of major global events and growing tourism inflows.
The move is expected to support India’s digital economy push while providing tourists a seamless, QR-code-based payment experience across millions of merchants nationwide.
