Number of Indians in Russian Armed Forces Rises to 44; India Seeks Immediate Release

Speaking on the issue, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Mr. Jaiswal said that India has formally taken up the matter with Russian authorities, urging them to release the Indians at the earliest and to put an end to the recruitment of Indian citizens into military service.

“The Indian government is closely monitoring the situation and has consistently expressed its concern to Moscow regarding this practice,” Mr. Jaiswal added.

The MEA’s statement comes amid heightened diplomatic engagement to ensure the safety and rights of Indian nationals serving abroad. Officials emphasized that India remains committed to protecting its citizens and preventing involuntary recruitment in foreign armed forces.

The matter is expected to remain under active discussion between New Delhi and Moscow in the coming weeks.
