Ratna Pathak Shah Remembers Satish Shah: “His Last Message Still Makes Me Smile”
Actor Ratna Pathak Shah has shared a moving tribute to her longtime friend and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai co-star Satish Shah, who passed away recently following a cardiac arrest. In her heartfelt note, she recounted her final exchange with the veteran actor — a humorous text that now feels bittersweet.
Writing for The Indian Express, Ratna revealed that on October 25 at 12:57 p.m., Satish sent her a playful WhatsApp message that read, “I’m often mistaken for an adult because of my age.” She replied with a laugh at 2:14 p.m., saying, “That’s just right for you!”
Just three hours later, at 3:49 p.m., she received a devastating message from producer JD Majethia, informing her that Satish was no more.
“At first, I thought it was a terrible joke,” Ratna wrote. “It didn’t feel real. Satish, who always faced life with laughter and resilience — gone? It’s still hard to believe.”
The actor described the disbelief that rippled through their close-knit circle of friends, many of whom had also received cheerful messages from Satish that same day.
Ratna and Satish shared one of Indian television’s most beloved on-screen partnerships as Maya and Indravadan Sarabhai in the cult comedy Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. Their friendship extended far beyond the set, built on mutual respect, humor, and warmth.
Satish Shah, aged 74, passed away at his Mumbai residence after suffering a cardiac arrest. According to actor Rajesh Kumar, he collapsed during lunch and was rushed to the hospital, but doctors could not revive him.
His passing marks the loss of one of India’s most loved comedy icons — a performer whose wit, humility, and generosity touched countless lives both on and off screen.
