Shehzeen Siddique Moves Bombay HC, Demands Independent Investigation into Husband’s Killing
Mumbai, November 8, 2025 — Shehzeen Ziauddin Siddique, widow of former Maharashtra Minister Baba Siddique, has approached the Bombay High Court seeking a fresh investigation into her husband’s murder, which took place on October 12, 2024, in Bandra East.
In her petition, Ms. Siddique alleged that the current investigation by Mumbai Police is biased and incomplete, deliberately avoiding scrutiny of politically connected builders involved in slum redevelopment projects. She demanded that the case be handed over to a court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) or, alternatively, to an independent officer or police agency from another state.
“The entire investigation appears to create an impression of depth, but in reality, it is superficial, akin to ‘digging a mountain and finding a rat,’” the petition stated, highlighting concerns over possible political interference and shielding of influential developers.
The widow’s plea underscores growing public concerns about transparency and accountability in high-profile criminal investigations in Maharashtra. The Bombay High Court is yet to decide on whether to transfer the investigation to an SIT or independent agency.
