“Silent Terror at Dusk” — The Ballabgarh, Faridabad Case

In the early evening of 3 November 2025, a 17-year-old girl, identified as Kanishka, was returning from her library/coaching centre near Shyam Colony in Ballabgarh (a part of the Faridabad district), when she was shot twice in broad daylight by a stalker. One bullet hit her shoulder; another grazed her abdomen. The assault was caught on CCTV: the shooter, allegedly waiting by his motorcycle, opened fire once she arrived at the spot. The accused has been identified as Jatin Mangla, aged about 20, who had allegedly been stalking the girl for months, even though she changed her library and routes to avoid him.

What Happened

The girl was on her way back from a library/coaching centre when the attacker placed himself in ambush near Shyam Colony.

After the shooting, the assailant abandoned the weapon at the scene and fled.

The young victim was rushed to hospital and, though still under treatment, was reported to be stable.

Police have registered an FIR for attempt to murder and illegal arms possession, and have formed multiple teams to hunt the accused.

Underlying Issues

Stalking & harassment: The accused reportedly began following the victim after they both attended the same library. The girl ignored his advances. He persisted, even after being asked by her family to stop.

Failure of preventive mechanisms: Despite the harassment being reported and the library management cancelling the accused’s membership and the girl leaving temporarily, the stalker re-appeared and the attack escalated.

Public safety vulnerability: The attack happened in daylight, on a public road, and demonstrates how even routine travel by a student can become a high-risk activity under stalking threats.

Arms availability: A homemade country-made pistol was used. The fact that such a weapon was deployed in a suburban area raises concerns about illegal arms proliferation
