India, sent in to bat, struggled against disciplined Australian bowling and were bowled out for 125 in 18.4 overs. Abhishek Sharma was the lone standout for the visitors, smashing 68 off 37 balls, while Harshit Rana contributed 35. Early breakthroughs by Josh Hazlewood (3-13) put India on the back foot, claiming the wickets of Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma, leaving India reeling at 32-4 in the powerplay.
A brief sixth-wicket partnership of 56 between Abhishek and Rana offered some resistance but was broken by Xavier Bartlett, who dismissed Rana at long-on. Abhishek was trapped LBW by Nathan Ellis, and Jasprit Bumrah’s run-out immediately after ended India’s innings.
In response, Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh led a swift chase, scoring 46 off 26 balls. He shared a solid 51-run opening stand with Travis Head (28), setting the platform for a clinical run chase. Despite losing wickets in the middle order, Australia reached the target comfortably with 40 balls to spare.
With Wednesday’s opener in Canberra abandoned due to rain, Australia now leads the series 1-0. The third T20 is scheduled in Hobart on Sunday.
