Bharti Airtel Crosses 650 Million Subscribers, Becomes World’s No. 2 Telecom Operator

The achievement reflects strong growth across its key markets, especially in India and Africa, where the company operates extensive mobile, broadband, and digital services networks. In India, Airtel’s mobile customer base accounts for over 368 million users, while its subsidiary Airtel Africa serves roughly 179 million customers across 14 countries.

Executive Vice Chairman Gopal Vittal described the milestone as both a source of pride and responsibility, saying the company will continue investing in advanced network technologies and customer experience to sustain its momentum.

Airtel’s broad portfolio includes mobile voice and data services, high‑speed internet to homes, digital TV offerings, and mobile financial solutions such as Airtel Money, which itself has over 52 million users in Africa. Strategic partnerships to expand connectivity further — including satellite broadband collaborations — are part of the company’s plans to bridge digital gaps in remote regions.

Industry analysts see this subscriber growth as evidence of Airtel’s expanding global footprint and competitiveness against major players in emerging and established markets.
