India Data Centre Capacity to Reach 14 GW by 2035 | Growth Outlook

India’s digital infrastructure is poised for explosive growth over the next decade, with data centre capacity expected to expand from around 1–1.5 GW today to an estimated 14 GW by 2035, according to recent industry forecasts. This represents a more than nine‑fold increase in installed capacity, driven by surging demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), 5G networks and data‑intensive services across sectors. 

The rapid rise of digital adoption in India — from e‑commerce and fintech to remote work and streaming services — is creating unprecedented demand for reliable, scalable data infrastructure. Providers such as global hyperscalers, cloud firms and domestic technology companies are investing heavily to increase capacity and widen geographic reach. Major cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi‑NCR and Bengaluru are already key hubs, while emerging markets and regional centres are also gaining attention. 

Industry analysts estimate that meeting this ambitious target will require tens of billions of dollars in capital expenditure, as well as supportive policies to attract investment, streamline approvals and encourage renewable energy use in data centre operations. State‑level incentives, improved connectivity, and policies aimed at making India a global data hub are expected to accelerate growth. 

The growth trajectory reflects not just increasing data consumption but also broader trends such as data localisation mandates, the rise of AI‑driven services, and the expanding role of cloud‑based enterprise solutions. As capacity builds out over the next decade, India could emerge as a key player in the global data infrastructure ecosystem, enabling faster, more secure processing and storage for businesses and consumers alike.
