India’s industrial production staged a strong comeback in November 2025, with factory output growing 6.7% year-on-year, marking the fastest pace in over two years and signaling a robust rebound following a seasonal slowdown during the festive period.
According to official data from the National Statistics Office (NSO), the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rose sharply from a modest 0.5% growth in October, reflecting a recovery in economic activity as demand normalised after the festival season.
The surge was broad-based, led by a strong performance in the manufacturing sector, which expanded by 8%, up from slower growth earlier in the year. Mining output also rebounded, recording 5.4% growth, supported by increased production of key minerals after the monsoon season. However, electricity generation continued to contract, declining 1.5% on a year-on-year basis.
Analysts attribute the sharp upturn to a combination of post-festival restocking, renewed demand, and improved performance across core industrial segments, including basic metals, fabricated metal products, pharmaceuticals, and motor vehicles. The recovery is seen as a positive signal for India’s overall economic momentum as it heads into the final quarter of the financial year.
Despite the strong November showing, some economists caution that growth may moderate in the near term as base-year effects normalise and the impact of seasonal factors wanes. Nonetheless, the rebound offers reassurance that industrial activity is regaining traction after a temporary lull.
