Metro Line 9 Clears Safety Certification, Likely to Open by Late January or Early February

The first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 9, spanning approximately 4.5 km from Dahisar East to Kashigaon in the Mira-Bhayandar region, has successfully obtained its safety certification from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), a key requirement before passenger services can start.

This approval comes after extensive inspections and preparations by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and positions the corridor for opening to commuters by late January or early February 2026 — possibly within the first week of February — once all operational arrangements are finalized.

Once operational, Line 9 will significantly enhance connectivity between the northern suburbs and the wider metro network, linking with the existing Line 7 at Dahisar East. The launch is expected to ease traffic congestion along busy arterial routes and offer commuters a faster, reliable transit option in the north-western outskirts of the metropolis.

Officials are coordinating staff deployment, training and final checks as they prepare for what could be one of the major additions to Mumbai’s expanding metro system, alongside other lines slated for similar launch timelines.
