Osama Shahab Wins Raghunathpur Seat in Bihar, Continues Shahabuddin Legacy for RJD
Raghunathpur, Bihar: In a significant political debut, Osama Shahab, son of late gangster-turned-politician Mohd Shahabuddin, retained the Raghunathpur Assembly seat for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Friday. The 31-year-old newcomer won the constituency, a traditional stronghold of his father in Siwan district, by a margin of 9,248 votes.
Shahab polled 88,187 votes, defeating his closest rival, JD(U)’s Vikash Kumar Singh, who secured 79,030 votes. An Independent candidate, Upendra Singh, trailed far behind with 2,909 votes.
Raghunathpur’s Electoral Dynamics
Raghunathpur, known for its significant Muslim-Yadav population, has historically leaned in favor of Shahabuddin’s RJD, making Osama Shahab’s entry and victory a continuation of the family’s political influence. Analysts note that the constituency’s demographic composition and strong party organization were decisive factors in the outcome.
Political Debut and Legacy
Osama Shahab, contesting his first election, managed to consolidate support among both traditional RJD voters and first-time voters attracted to his campaign. His victory is being seen as a signal that the Shahabuddin political legacy continues to resonate in Siwan despite the controversies surrounding the late leader.
RJD leaders hailed the win as a major morale booster ahead of other Assembly polls, emphasizing the party’s continued relevance in Bihar’s political landscape. Meanwhile, JD(U) and other opposition parties have acknowledged the RJD’s organizational strength in the region.
