Rajnath Singh Calls for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, Supports ASEAN-Led Security Framework

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized on Saturday, November 1, 2025, that the Indo-Pacific region must remain free from coercion and open to all nations. His remarks come amid growing international attention on China’s increasing military presence and assertiveness in the region.

Speaking on regional security, Rajnath Singh reiterated that India is committed to supporting an inclusive security framework led by ASEAN, aimed at fostering cooperation, stability, and peace among nations in the Indo-Pacific.

He highlighted that India envisions a rules-based, open, and transparent order in the region, where freedom of navigation and peaceful resolution of disputes are upheld. The Defence Minister stressed that collaboration among regional countries is vital to address challenges while ensuring the sovereignty and independence of all nations.

Singh’s comments align with India’s long-standing strategic policy of promoting multilateralism and regional cooperation in security matters, while opposing any unilateral coercive actions that threaten stability in the Indo-Pacific.

This comes at a time when several countries have voiced concerns over increased naval exercises and territorial claims in the South China Sea and surrounding areas, making India’s position on a free and inclusive Indo-Pacific particularly significant.
