AIIMS Tells HC It Will Build 3,000-Bed Rest House, Offers Land for 80 Tents via DUSIB

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has told the Delhi High Court that it plans to construct a 3,000-bed rest house to address accommodation needs linked to patients and their attendants. As an interim measure, AIIMS has also offered land to the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) for setting up 80 temporary tents.

The submission came during a hearing on the shortage of affordable lodging facilities for patients and families visiting the premier medical institution from across the country. AIIMS said the proposed rest house would provide much-needed relief and help reduce the burden on pavements and nearby public spaces.

The court took note of the assurances and sought updates on timelines and coordination with DUSIB. The move is expected to significantly improve facilities for economically weaker patients and attendants, while ensuring better management of the area around the hospital complex.
