Bengaluru Civic Body Proposes 800-Metre Flyover at Iblur Junction, Plans Major Outer Ring Road Revamp
To tackle chronic traffic congestion, Bengaluru’s civic agency has proposed an 800-metre flyover near Iblur junction along with a comprehensive overhaul of the Outer Ring Road.
In an effort to ease mounting traffic congestion in one of Bengaluru’s busiest corridors, the city’s civic agency has proposed the construction of an 800-metre-long flyover near the Iblur junction. The project is part of a broader plan to upgrade and decongest the Outer Ring Road (ORR), a key arterial route connecting major IT hubs and residential zones.
Officials said the proposed flyover aims to streamline traffic movement at the heavily congested Iblur junction, which witnesses frequent bottlenecks during peak hours. Alongside the flyover, the ORR overhaul is expected to include road widening, improved junction design, better pedestrian infrastructure, and enhanced traffic management systems.
The proposal is currently under review, with authorities emphasizing that the project’s design will focus on long-term traffic solutions rather than temporary relief. If approved, the initiative could significantly improve commute times for thousands of daily users, particularly IT professionals and commercial transport operators.
Urban planners, however, have stressed the need for coordinated execution and integration with public transport systems to ensure sustainable traffic management across the corridor.
