Mumbai, November 1, 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to immediately form a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by a woman IPS officer, to probe the suspicious death of a woman doctor in Satara district’s Phaltan town last week.

According to officials, the 28-year-old doctor, originally from Beed district, was found dead in a hotel room on October 23. Preliminary reports suggest that she died by suicide, though the circumstances remain under investigation.

Authorities recovered a note written on the victim’s palm, in which she reportedly accused Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane of sexually assaulting her multiple times and Prashant Bankar, a software engineer, of subjecting her to mental harassment. Both men have since been taken into custody.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said the SIT would conduct a transparent and time-bound inquiry into the case, ensuring that all angles are examined thoroughly. “No one found guilty will be spared, regardless of their position,” he stated.

The case has sparked outrage across Maharashtra, with women’s rights groups demanding swift justice and stronger safeguards for female professionals, especially those working in remote or vulnerable conditions.

Police sources said that evidence collected so far has been sent for forensic examination, and the SIT will coordinate with district officials to verify digital and physical records linked to the suspects.
