SSC CGL 2026 Recruitment Opens for Over 12,000 Posts Across Central Government Departments
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially begun the application process for SSC CGL 2026, offering more than 12,000 vacancies in various central government departments. Eligible graduates can apply online before the deadline next month.
India’s Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced the launch of the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026 recruitment process, opening applications for more than 12,000 government vacancies across multiple ministries and departments. The notification has generated significant interest among job seekers preparing for central government careers.
According to SSC officials, the recruitment drive includes posts in departments such as Income Tax, Customs, Central Excise, CBI, Auditor offices and several other government institutions. Candidates holding a recognised graduate degree are eligible to apply for most of the positions listed under the examination.
The online application process has already started on the official SSC portal, and candidates are expected to complete their registrations before the closing date in June. Authorities have advised applicants to carefully review eligibility criteria, age limits and examination guidelines before submitting forms.
The SSC CGL examination remains one of India’s most competitive recruitment tests due to the large number of applicants and the attractive career opportunities associated with central government jobs. Lakhs of aspirants appear for the examination every year hoping to secure positions that offer stable salaries, job security and long-term career growth.
This year’s recruitment process is also attracting attention because of changes introduced in the examination pattern and timing structure. Officials have indicated that certain sections of the Tier-1 examination may now include stricter sectional timing rules aimed at improving evaluation standards and time management during the test.
Education experts say the announcement comes at a time when government job demand remains exceptionally high among India’s youth, especially amid concerns surrounding unemployment and economic uncertainty. Coaching centres and online learning platforms have already reported a surge in registrations following the release of the notification.
Candidates selected through the SSC CGL process may be appointed to various Group B and Group C posts under the Government of India. The examination will be conducted in multiple stages, including computer-based tests, skill assessments and document verification depending on the post applied for.
Officials have urged applicants to rely only on the official SSC website for updates related to admit cards, examination schedules and future notifications to avoid misinformation circulating on social media.
