PM Modi Starts Three-Nation Visit from Jordan to Boost Global Partnerships

Amman, Jordan—December 15, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday commenced a four-day diplomatic tour across Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, expanding economic partnerships, and deepening cooperation on regional peace and security.

The tour, scheduled from December 15 to 18, 2025, underscores India’s growing diplomatic engagement in the Middle East and Africa, regions of critical strategic importance.

First Leg: Jordan (Dec 15–16)

Modi arrived in Amman, Jordan, where he was warmly received and is set to hold talks with King Abdullah II. This is the first full-fledged bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to Jordan in nearly three decades and marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Key agendas include:

  • Bilateral cooperation on trade and investment, with India being Jordan’s third-largest trading partner.

  • Strengthening economic ties, including discussions on sectors such as energy, fertilizers, and industry.

  • Strategic cooperation on regional security and counter-terrorism.

  • Engagement with the Indian diaspora and business communities in Jordan.

Bilateral talks are also expected to include economic cooperation and investments, with enhanced connectivity and direct flights between Amman and Indian cities further facilitating people-to-people ties.

Second Leg: Ethiopia (Dec 16–17)

Following the Jordan visit, Modi will travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for a state visit—his first to the East African nation. The focus will be on South-South cooperation, with discussions slated on:

  • Solar energy partnerships and renewable technology collaborations.

  • Agriculture and mining cooperation to boost economic development.

  • Digital infrastructure and cybersecurity initiatives.

These talks are expected to enhance long-term economic engagement and cooperation on sustainability goals.

Final Leg: Oman (Dec 17–18)

The concluding leg of the tour sees Modi visiting Oman, a key strategic partner in the Gulf region. During this visit:

  • India is optimistic about finalizing a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) with Oman.

  • Discussions will also center on defense cooperation and joint efforts on security and maritime collaboration.

The Oman visit highlights India’s intent to deepen economic and strategic ties, particularly in the energy and trade sectors

Overall Significance

This three-nation tour reflects India’s broader diplomatic strategy to expand its global footprint, enhance trade and investment partnerships, and contribute to regional peace and stability. It also underscores India’s commitment to strong South-South cooperation in Africa and the Middle East.

With high-level meetings, business engagements, and diaspora outreach on the agenda, the visit aims to lay the foundation for long-term collaborative growth across strategic sectors in all three countries.
