Phone Found With Prajwal Revanna Inside Jail, Congress MP Demands Action; Jail Official Suspended

An Android phone was found in the possession of former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna during a raid conducted by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Jail. The development has raised fresh questions over security and the movement of prohibited items inside the high-security prison.

According to jail authorities, the CCB conducted searches of high-profile prisoners on Tuesday afternoon. During the operation, an Android phone was reportedly recovered from Prajwal Revanna. Another inmate, identified as Pratap Rai, was also allegedly found in possession of a phone.

Following the recovery, a case has been registered against both inmates under Section 42 of the Prisons Act. The provision deals with violations involving prohibited items and other breaches of prison rules. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and collecting additional evidence before deciding on further action.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari has reacted strongly to the incident and demanded action against Revanna. Speaking to news agency ANI, Tiwari said that the law must be equal for everyone and alleged that Revanna had misused the political influence associated with his family.

The incident has also triggered action against jail officials. Karnataka Prisons DGP Alok Kumar said that an Android phone was seized from Revanna. Based on a report submitted by the DIG (South), the concerned Assistant Superintendent has been suspended, while the Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Jail has been issued a show-cause notice.

Authorities are now conducting a detailed investigation to determine how the phone entered the prison, how it was being used and whether any prison personnel were involved in facilitating access to the device.

Prajwal Revanna is currently in jail in connection with the obscene-video case linked to him. In March 2026, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the case filed a 13,712-page chargesheet before the senior civil court in Hassan.

The SIT named 39 accused in the chargesheet. Investigators said that 52 names emerged during the probe, but sufficient evidence was found to proceed against 39 people. The investigation included statements from 277 witnesses.

According to the SIT chargesheet, the accused allegedly purchased around 70 pen drives in Hassan, which were allegedly used to circulate the videos. The latest phone-recovery incident has now added another layer to the controversy surrounding Revanna and raised questions about security inside the prison.
