Trump Sets ‘Final’ Iran Deadline After Series of Delays, Warns of Major Military Action
U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that the latest deadline given to Iran to reach a deal over the Strait of Hormuz will be “final,” after previously postponing similar ultimatums multiple times.
The deadline, set for Tuesday evening, comes amid escalating tensions in an ongoing conflict involving the United States, Iran, and regional allies. Trump has demanded that Iran reopen the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz and agree to broader conditions, including curbs on its nuclear ambitions.
Despite earlier extensions—reportedly granted to allow negotiations—Trump indicated that no further delays would be offered. He warned that failure to comply could trigger sweeping U.S. military strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure such as power plants, bridges, and oil facilities.
“I hope I don’t have to do it,” Trump said, while also asserting that the U.S. has the capability to carry out large-scale attacks within hours if necessary.
Iran, however, has rejected key elements of the U.S. proposal. Officials in Tehran have instead pushed for a broader, long-term settlement that includes lifting sanctions and guarantees against future attacks.
The repeated delays followed by a “final” warning highlight a pattern in Trump’s strategy—alternating between diplomatic engagement and aggressive rhetoric. Analysts say this approach has increased uncertainty, both diplomatically and economically, as global markets react nervously to the possibility of war.
International organizations, including the United Nations, have raised concerns about the legality of potential strikes on civilian infrastructure, cautioning that such actions could violate international law. Nevertheless, Trump has dismissed these concerns, arguing that preventing Iran from developing nuclear capabilities takes precedence.
With the deadline now imminent and positions on both sides hardening, the situation remains volatile. Diplomatic channels are still active, but prospects for a breakthrough appear uncertain as the countdown continues.
