Delhi NCR Weather Today: Dust Storms, Strong Winds Sweep Capital as IMD Forecasts Rain and Thunderstorms
Residents of the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) woke up on Friday to dust storms and strong surface winds, significantly affecting visibility and changing the city’s weather pattern just days into April. Early morning dust and gusty winds hit areas including Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad, signalling a marked shift from the dry, hot conditions typical of this time of year.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a continuation of this unsettled weather through the weekend, issuing a yellow alert for rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across Delhi and neighbouring regions. Weather officials said light rain is possible later on Friday, with thunderstorms likely tonight and across Saturday, April 4, potentially accompanied by lightning and winds of 40–70 km/h.
Cloudy skies and occasional light showers are expected to bring some relief from recent warm temperatures, with maximums forecast near 33 °C and minimums around 21 °C. The humid conditions, combined with dust and wind, also contributed to a temporary deterioration in air quality early in the day.
The IMD’s ongoing alert suggests the unstable pattern could persist, with weather systems moving across northern India bringing intermittent rain and thunderstorm activity. Residents have been advised to stay updated on conditions and take precautions during high winds and lightning, especially over the next couple of days.
