Delhi Residents Wake Up to Overcast Morning; Rain Possible Later Today

Residents of New Delhi woke up to gloomy skies and an overcast morning on Friday, signaling a shift in the city’s weather pattern. With a thick blanket of clouds hanging over the capital, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain and scattered thunderstorms later in the day, offering hope of relief from the early heat and dry conditions that have prevailed recently.

Delhi Residents Wake Up to Overcast Morning; Rain Possible Later Today

The city, often known for its rapidly rising temperatures in March, saw cooler conditions this morning as clouds dominated the horizon. Many parts of the national capital reported a significant increase in cloud cover shortly after sunrise, making the start of the day noticeably cooler than in recent weeks.

Meteorologists say this overcast condition is due to an active weather system moving across northern India, bringing moisture into the region and increasing the likelihood of showers later today.

According to the latest weather updates, Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) may experience light rainfall, scattered showers, and possible thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. In addition, gusty winds of up to 30–40 km/h are expected to accompany the rainfall, particularly if thunderstorms develop.

The IMD has also linked this unsettled weather to a western disturbance — a typical springtime system that often brings unexpected rain and cloud cover before the onset of summer. Such disturbances carry moisture from the west and can trigger sudden weather changes over the plains of north India.

For many residents, the overcast morning has already brought a welcome break from the sharp sun and daytime heat. Streets that usually heat up quickly during March remained slightly cooler, giving pedestrians and early‑morning commuters some comfort.

While the forecast rain is expected to be mostly light, authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during thunderstorms that could reduce visibility on roadways. Outdoor event organizers in the capital are also advised to monitor the weather throughout the day.

With the current weather system expected to persist into the weekend, Delhi’s weather could remain unpredictable in the short term. Residents should prepare for warm conditions early in the day, cloud buildup by afternoon, and a good chance of rain or thunderstorms later on.

For now, the overcast morning has brought a much‑needed pause in the city’s climatic rollercoaster — but the real test of the forecast will be the rain expected later today.
