Rain Relief Before Heatwave Returns: Delhi-NCR Braces for Thunderstorms and Rising Temperatures
Delhi-NCR residents may get temporary relief from scorching heat as thunderstorms and light rain are expected over the next few days, before temperatures rise sharply again later this week.
Residents across Delhi-NCR are expected to witness a brief spell of pleasant weather as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, gusty winds, and light rainfall in several parts of the region.
According to weather officials, changing wind patterns and western disturbance activity are likely to bring temporary relief from the intense summer heat that has affected the national capital in recent days.
The IMD has also warned of lightning activity and strong winds during evening and nighttime hours. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during sudden thunderstorms, especially while traveling or staying outdoors.
While the rainfall is expected to reduce temperatures slightly for a short period, weather experts say the relief may not last long. Forecast models indicate that temperatures could rise sharply again by the weekend, with maximum temperatures potentially crossing 40°C in parts of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad.
Meteorologists believe the current weather fluctuations are being influenced by western disturbances interacting with hot and dry conditions prevailing across northwest India.
The sudden change in weather has also affected air quality levels in the region. Strong winds and light rain are expected to temporarily improve pollution levels in several NCR cities.
Meanwhile, health experts have advised people to stay hydrated and avoid direct exposure to the sun during afternoon hours as heatwave-like conditions may return soon after the rainfall activity ends.
Social media users have widely reacted to the weather shift, with many welcoming the cooler conditions after days of extreme heat and humidity.
The IMD continues to monitor weather developments closely and may issue additional alerts if thunderstorm activity intensifies over the next 48 hours.
