IMD Issues Storm & Rain Alert in 14 States as Thunderstorms Bring Relief from Heatwave
India witnesses a sudden weather shift as thunderstorms, rain, and strong winds are expected across multiple states, offering temporary relief from extreme heat.
Parts of northern India have experienced a sudden shift in weather conditions, with thunderstorms, rainfall and strong winds bringing short-lived relief from the ongoing heatwave.
According to the India Meteorological Department, multiple states are expected to see unstable weather patterns throughout the day, including lightning and gusty winds reaching up to 60–65 km/h.
The affected regions include areas across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar and Punjab, where temperatures had remained significantly above seasonal averages in recent days.
Meteorologists say the change is due to a western disturbance interacting with local atmospheric conditions, triggering storm activity. While the rainfall has led to a slight dip in temperatures, officials caution that the relief is likely to be temporary, with heatwave conditions expected to return in some areas.
Authorities have advised residents to remain indoors during periods of intense lightning and strong winds, and to follow safety advisories issued by local administrations.
The fluctuating weather highlights the challenges posed by extreme climate patterns, which have become increasingly frequent across the region in recent years.
