Kanpur Cracks Down on Coaching Centres After Lucknow Tragedy, 22 Institutes Sealed Including Physics Wallah

Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh: In the wake of the devastating fire incident in Lucknow that claimed the lives of at least 15 people, the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) has launched a major crackdown on coaching institutes operating in violation of safety and building regulations. The action has led to the sealing of 22 coaching centres, including a branch of Physics Wallah, in the city's prominent education hub, Kakadev.

According to officials, the inspection drive was initiated immediately after the Lucknow tragedy raised serious concerns about the safety standards followed by educational institutions across Uttar Pradesh. During the checks, authorities reportedly found multiple coaching centres functioning without proper compliance with fire safety norms, building regulations, and occupancy permissions.

The KDA conducted extensive surveys of coaching institutes and commercial establishments in the area. Officials stated that the institutions found violating safety guidelines were first issued notices and asked to cooperate with the inspection process. Following the verification of alleged irregularities, several premises were sealed to prevent further operations until compliance requirements are met.

Among the institutions affected by the action was a centre operated by Physics Wallah, one of India's leading ed-tech and coaching brands. The inclusion of a major coaching player in the crackdown has drawn significant public attention and sparked discussions about safety standards within the country's rapidly expanding coaching industry.

The crackdown comes just days after a massive fire broke out at a training institute in Lucknow, resulting in multiple fatalities, most of them students.
