The upcoming Manoj Bajpayee-starrer ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ has sparked a major political and legal controversy, with BJP leaders and community organisations objecting to the film’s title and promotional material. The term ‘Pandat’, a colloquial form of Pandit, is traditionally associated with the Brahmin community, while ‘Ghooskhor’ translates to “bribe-taker”, a combination critics argue unfairly stereotypes and maligns an entire caste.

Following complaints, an FIR was registered in Uttar Pradesh under sections related to promoting enmity, hurting sentiments, and disturbing social harmony. BJP leaders said the title could inflame caste tensions and demanded corrective action, while some organisations called for a ban on the film.

In response, the film’s makers clarified that the story is fictional and does not target any community. Actor Manoj Bajpayee and director Neeraj Pandey stated that the character depicted represents an individual, not a caste or group, and that there was no intention to offend. Amid mounting backlash, promotional material related to the film was reportedly withdrawn.

The episode has reignited debates around creative freedom, caste representation in cinema, and the growing intersection of politics and entertainment, especially in sensitive electoral and social climates like Uttar Pradesh.
