Russian Strikes on Ukraine Leave 13 Dead as Drone and Missile Attacks Intensify
At least 13 people have been killed following a wave of Russian drone and missile attacks across parts of Ukraine, officials have said, in one of the latest escalations in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Ukrainian authorities reported that the strikes targeted both civilian infrastructure and residential areas overnight, causing significant damage and leaving dozens injured. Emergency services were deployed to multiple regions, where rescue operations continued into the morning.
According to preliminary information, air defence systems intercepted several incoming drones and missiles, but some managed to breach defences, leading to casualties and destruction. Local officials described scenes of devastation, with buildings reduced to rubble and fires breaking out in densely populated neighbourhoods.
The Ukrainian government condemned the attacks, calling them a deliberate attempt to target civilians and critical infrastructure. In a statement, officials said such strikes highlight the continued vulnerability of urban centres despite strengthened defence measures.
Moscow has not issued an immediate response to the latest reports. However, Russia has previously maintained that it targets military and strategic sites, a claim repeatedly disputed by Ukraine and its allies.
The attacks come amid ongoing tensions and stalled diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the conflict, which has now stretched into a prolonged and destructive phase. International observers warn that continued escalation could further worsen the humanitarian situation in the region.
As rescue teams search through debris for survivors, concerns remain high over the possibility of further strikes in the coming days.
