Weather Alert: Major Weather Shift Expected; Hailstorms Likely in Delhi, Haryana and Several States on June 11-12

New Delhi: After days of intense heat and rising temperatures, residents across North India may finally get some relief. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert warning of thunderstorms, rainfall, gusty winds, and possible hailstorms in several states, including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir on June 11 and 12.

According to meteorologists, a fresh western disturbance combined with favorable atmospheric conditions is expected to trigger widespread weather activity across northern parts of the country. The system is likely to bring significant changes in weather patterns over the next 48 hours, ending the prolonged spell of dry and extremely hot conditions in many regions.

Delhi-NCR is expected to witness cloudy skies, thunderstorms, and moderate rainfall during this period. Some areas may also experience hailstorms, particularly during intense thunderstorm activity. Weather experts believe that temperatures in the national capital could drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, providing much-needed relief from the summer heat.

Haryana and Punjab are also likely to experience strong thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall and hail in isolated locations. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, especially during peak storm hours. Farmers have been urged to take necessary precautions to protect standing crops, agricultural equipment, and livestock from possible weather-related damage.

The IMD has further warned that wind speeds may reach between 60 and 80 kilometers per hour in some regions. Such strong winds could lead to uprooted trees, traffic disruptions, damage to temporary structures, and interruptions in power supply. Citizens are advised to avoid standing near trees, electric poles, or weak structures during severe weather conditions.

Western Uttar Pradesh is also expected to witness thunderstorms and scattered rainfall. Meanwhile, hilly states such as Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh may experience rainfall, lightning activity, and hailstorms in higher-altitude areas. Travelers planning trips to mountainous regions have been advised to stay updated with local weather forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.

The changing weather pattern is not limited to North India. Parts of Bihar and Jharkhand are likely to receive thunderstorms and rain, while several northeastern states may witness moderate to heavy rainfall. In southern India, monsoon activity continues to strengthen, bringing widespread showers to Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Weather experts believe that these developments are linked to seasonal atmospheric changes and advancing monsoon conditions. While the rainfall is expected to bring relief from the heatwave-like conditions experienced over the past few weeks, it may also increase the risk of localized flooding, waterlogging, and transportation disruptions in urban areas.

The IMD has advised people to regularly monitor weather updates and follow official advisories. During thunderstorms, residents should remain indoors whenever possible, avoid open fields, and stay away from water bodies and electrical installations.
