Black Friday Chaos at San Jose Mall as Shooting Leaves Shoppers Sheltering in Stores

A Black Friday shopping rush turned into a frightening ordeal at Westfield Valley Fair Mall in San Jose, California, after gunfire sent crowds scrambling for safety. Police confirmed that three victims with gunshot wounds were taken to a local hospital. Their injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.

The San Jose Police Department said on X that officers were still “diligently clearing the mall,” urging people to stay away from the area. According to investigators, the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident rather than an active shooter scenario.

Police: No ongoing threat, but mall thoroughly evacuated

Officers worked to evacuate stores one by one to ensure there were no lingering risks.
“Please continue to avoid the area,” police reiterated as they secured the building.

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan also addressed the public on X, reassuring residents that there was “no ongoing threat to the community.”

“This is not the news I wanted to share with you this holiday weekend,” he wrote. “My prayers are with the victims, and I know our officers are doing everything they can to find the person responsible and hold them accountable.”

Shoppers hide in stores as chaos unfolds

Videos and photos shared across social media captured tense scenes as shoppers barricaded themselves inside stores, unsure of what was happening.

One user posted images from inside a clothing shop, writing: “Potential active shooter situation at Valley Fair Mall in the Silicon Valley area, shoutout to @Abercrombie for the comfy hiding spot.”

The heavy Black Friday crowds added to the confusion, with families and holiday shoppers forced to take cover until police reached their area.

Suspect status remains unclear

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether anyone has been taken into custody. Police have not offered further details, and they did not immediately respond to inquiries about the investigation.

As officers continue to review surveillance footage and interview witnesses, shoppers and residents await updates on who may be responsible for the shooting.
