Pakistani Couple Elopes, Crosses Into Kutch on Foot; Detained by Border Security Force
In a dramatic turn of events, a young Pakistani couple eloped from their homes and trekked on foot across the India-Pakistan border in Gujarat’s Kutch district, only to be detained by the Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday.
The couple, identified as 24-year-old Popat and 20-year-old Gauri, fled their village in Pakistan—just 8 km from the international border—late Sunday night. They made the arduous journey on foot before being intercepted near pillar number 1016 by BSF personnel patrolling the area.
During questioning, Popat and Gauri revealed that they had eloped due to opposition from their families regarding their marriage. Officials from the Balasar police station confirmed that further investigations are underway, and an FIR has yet to be registered.
This marks the second such incident in two months at the Kutch border. Earlier, on October 8, another couple attempting a similar crossing was also detained by border authorities. The case highlights the challenges faced by young couples pursuing love across politically sensitive borders.
