Trump Seeks Fast Phase-2 Gaza Ceasefire, Calls on Hamas to Disarm

Washington / Tel Aviv —  US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about reaching Phase 2 of the Gaza ceasefire “very quickly”, following recent discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump also urged Hamas to disarm, calling it a necessary step toward lasting peace in the region.

Speaking after the talks, Trump said progress toward the next phase of the ceasefire agreement was within reach, stressing the importance of momentum in diplomatic efforts to end the prolonged conflict in Gaza. He emphasized that continued negotiations must focus on security guarantees for Israel and stability for the wider Middle East.

Trump further stated that Hamas must lay down its weapons, arguing that disarmament is essential for any durable political settlement. According to him, peace efforts cannot succeed as long as armed militant groups continue to pose threats to Israeli civilians and regional security.

The comments came after Trump’s meeting with Netanyahu, where the two leaders discussed the current status of the ceasefire, humanitarian concerns in Gaza, and the roadmap for subsequent phases of the agreement. Phase 2 is expected to include broader security arrangements and political discussions aimed at preventing a renewed outbreak of violence.

While Hamas has not formally responded to Trump’s remarks, the issue of disarmament remains a major point of contention in ceasefire negotiations. Analysts say Trump’s statements reflect growing international pressure to move beyond temporary truces toward a more comprehensive resolution of the conflict.

As diplomatic efforts continue, the success of Phase 2 will largely depend on the willingness of all parties to compromise and commit to long-term peace, amid ongoing tensions on the ground.
