₹5 Crore Extortion Plot Busted as Rohini Shooters Arrested
In a significant breakthrough, Delhi Police have arrested two sharpshooters linked to a chilling ₹5 crore extortion case that had shaken the Rohini area earlier this year.
The case traces back to threatening calls received by a local businessman from an international number. The caller, claiming ties to an organized crime network, demanded ₹5 crore in exchange for “protection.” When the victim refused to comply, the threats escalated into violence.
On January 2, armed attackers opened fire at the businessman’s vehicle in Rohini. The shooting, police say, was intended to intimidate rather than kill—a calculated move often used by extortion gangs to instill fear.
Following weeks of investigation, surveillance, and intelligence gathering, the Delhi Police Special Cell tracked down and arrested the two shooters from Maharashtra. Both suspects were reportedly wanted in multiple criminal cases and carried a reward of ₹1 lakh each.
Investigators believe the attackers were acting on instructions from handlers based abroad, highlighting the growing reach of transnational crime networks. Authorities also revealed that similar extortion patterns have been emerging across Delhi-NCR, with criminals using encrypted communication and foreign numbers to avoid detection.
Police officials have called the arrests a major step in dismantling a larger organized crime syndicate, though they caution that the masterminds behind the operation are still at large.
The incident underscores a worrying trend—where organized gangs are increasingly targeting businessmen with high-value extortion demands, backed by threats and acts of violence.
As the investigation continues, security agencies remain on high alert, working to prevent further such incidents in the capital.
