‘Drishyam’-Style Murder in Ahmedabad: Man’s Body Found Buried Beneath His Own Kitchen Floor

The murder, allegedly committed by the victim’s wife’s paramour and two of his relatives, has sent shockwaves across Gujarat’s Sarkhej locality.
Officials have described the crime as eerily similar to the 2015 Bollywood film Drishyam — where a man’s body was concealed beneath the floor to destroy evidence.

A Crime Hidden in Plain Sight

The victim, Samir Ansari, a mason by profession, hailed from Bihar and had moved to Ahmedabad in 2016 after marrying Ruby, with whom he had two children.
For nearly a year, Ansari was reported missing, and his house in Sarkhej remained locked — until police, acting on a fresh lead, broke open the premises on Tuesday night (November 4).

During the search, investigators found human bones and personal belongings concealed under the kitchen floor tiles.

“We received inputs suggesting foul play. When the floor was dug up, skeletal remains were recovered from beneath the kitchen,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ajit Rajian.

The Confession and Arrest

Following the discovery, police arrested Ruby’s lover, identified as Mohammed Salim, along with two of his relatives who allegedly helped in both the murder and disposal of the body.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Salim and Ruby plotted the murder when Ansari allegedly began suspecting her of infidelity. On the night of the crime, Ansari was strangled to death before his body was buried under a freshly cemented patch of the kitchen floor.

The suspects reportedly painted and rearranged the kitchen soon after to hide any signs of disturbance.

A Cold Case Reopened

For months, the victim’s disappearance remained unsolved. Neighbors told police that Ruby had moved out of the house soon after Ansari “left for work” and never returned.
Locals said they had noticed a strong smell for several days after his disappearance but assumed it was from nearby drains.

“We always wondered why the house stayed locked. It gives us chills knowing he was buried there all along,” said a neighbor.

Evidence and Investigation

Police have sent the skeletal remains for forensic testing and DNA analysis to confirm the identity of the deceased.
Ruby is currently being interrogated, and officers suspect she played a key role in concealing the crime.

Authorities have also recovered cement bags, tools, and mobile data records believed to have been used in the cover-up.

“This case shows extreme planning and deception. The accused thought they could hide the truth forever — but the floor gave it away,” DCP Rajian said.

Bollywood-Like Crime Stuns City

The brutal killing has drawn comparisons to Drishyam, the hit film where a family hides a body under their house to cover up a murder.
Police say such “copycat crimes” reflect the growing influence of cinematic depictions on real-world criminal behavior.
