Gangster Anmol Bishnoi Sent to 11-Day NIA Custody After Delhi Return

The court observed that Bishnoi’s role in a terror conspiracy orchestrated by the gang led by his brother, Lawrence Bishnoi, needed thorough investigation. The NIA is tasked with uncovering details such as his involvement in the conspiracy, modus operandi, funding sources, and social media accounts used to execute terror activities.

Background of Investigation

According to NIA, Anmol was part of a criminal syndicate operating in India and abroad linked to Babbar Khalsa International, involved in:

  • Raising funds and recruiting youth for terrorist acts.
  • Planning and executing targeted killings to instil fear.
  • Crimes attracting provisions under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been absconding since 2022 and was among 200 deportees arriving from the US when arrested. He carried a ₹10 lakh cash reward and is the 13th co-accused arrested in connection with the gang’s terror syndicate.

Criminal Cases Linked to Anmol

Anmol is also an accused in:

  • The murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.
  • The murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique.
  • The shooting outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s house in Bandra.

Punjab Police officials revealed that Anmol had fled India using a fake passport shortly before Moosewala’s murder and had been living in the US under the alias “Bhanu”.

Legal Proceedings

Anmol’s advocates, Deepak Nanda and Rajani, argued that all investigating material was already with NIA and that he was willing to cooperate without remand. However, the court emphasized the wide scope of investigation and granted custody to NIA.

Rajasthan Police noted 22 cases registered against Anmol in the state, along with five in Punjab, two in Haryana, and one each in Delhi and Mumbai, totaling 31 criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, extortion, and arms offences.

NIA’s remand plea also stated that Anmol was wanted in 11 cases across India, highlighting the gravity of the ongoing investigation.
