India vs New Zealand, 1st T20I: Arshdeep Singh’s Simple Plan for Flat Pitches — ‘Take God’s Name’
Ahead of the first T20I against New Zealand, India pacer Arshdeep Singh spoke candidly about bowling on flat pitches, saying the key is staying calm, backing basics, and “taking God’s name” when there’s little help for bowlers.
As India prepare to take on New Zealand in the first T20 International, fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has offered an honest and light-hearted take on the challenge of bowling on flat pitches that heavily favour batters. Known for his calm approach under pressure, Arshdeep admitted that when conditions offer little assistance, bowlers need more than just skill — they need patience and faith.
Speaking ahead of the match, Arshdeep said that on batting-friendly surfaces, the focus shifts to controlling what is in the bowler’s hands. “You stick to your plans, execute your yorkers and variations, and sometimes just take God’s name,” he remarked, highlighting the mental toughness required in modern T20 cricket.
Arshdeep emphasised the importance of discipline, smart use of slower balls, and trusting the process rather than chasing wickets recklessly. With T20 pitches becoming increasingly flat and high-scoring, he believes bowlers must accept that getting hit is part of the game and quickly move on to the next delivery.
As India face a strong New Zealand batting lineup, Arshdeep’s mindset reflects the team’s broader approach — staying fearless, adaptable, and composed, even when the odds are stacked against the bowlers.
