LDF, UDF, NDA Finalize Kochi Corporation Seat-Sharing, Only Minor Details Pending
Kochi Corporation Polls: Three Fronts Reach Broad Understanding on Seat-Sharing Kochi, November 8, 2025 — All three major political fronts in Kerala have largely concluded their seat-sharing discussions for the upcoming Kochi Corporation elections, with only minor details remaining to be finalized.
Left Democratic Front (LDF)
Within the LDF, which has governed the Corporation for the past five years, the following broad understanding has been reached (yet to be officially announced):
· CPI: 8 seats
· Kerala Congress (Mani): 3 seats
· Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Janata Dal: 2 seats each
· Indian National League (INL): 1 seat
· Remaining seats largely to CPI(M), with internal settlement needed for three divisions in West Kochi.
Notably, the CPI was allowed to switch wards, gaining Thrikkanarvattom and Girinagar in place of Pachalam and Ayyappankkavu, enabling better electoral prospects. The LDF plans to field a team of experienced candidates with prior councillor experience.
United Democratic Front (UDF)
The UDF has finalized its seat-sharing as follows:
· Indian Union Muslim League (IUML): 7 seats
· Kerala Congress (Joseph): 3 seats
· Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP): 1 seat
· Congress: Remaining seats
· A claim by Communist Marxist Party (CMP) for one seat is still under discussion.
National Democratic Alliance (NDA)
The NDA will finalize its arrangement at a meeting attended by Union Minister George Kurian and likely BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The Bharath Dharma Jana Sena is expected to contest 10 seats, while Kerala Congress (Nationalist), NCP, and Shiv Sena may receive one seat each.
Outlook
With seat-sharing largely settled, the focus now shifts to finalizing candidates and campaign preparations, setting the stage for a competitive and closely watched Kochi Corporation election.
