Omar Abdullah Reacts to Bihar Election Results: Reflects on Kashmir’s Challenges

Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday offered a candid reflection following the NDA’s resounding victory in Bihar’s 2025 assembly elections. Speaking after his party’s loss in the Budgam by-poll, he said,

“When I look at Bihar’s condition, I feel less sad about my own.”

Abdullah was referring to the socio‑economic and political challenges faced by Bihar, contrasting them with the difficulties in Kashmir. He noted that while his own region has its problems, the scale of issues in Bihar made him feel relatively more hopeful about his situation.

He also praised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, saying that turning anti-incumbency into an electoral advantage is no small feat. Abdullah suggested that other states could learn from Nitish’s governance, especially from his social welfare initiatives and development-driven politics.

On the Budgam by-poll, Abdullah said he had anticipated a tough fight: “I knew the Budgam elections wouldn’t be easy because there is a huge section here that doesn’t vote on the basis of issues or by looking at work being done.”
