One Body Found Hanging from Tree: The Enormity of the Red Fort Car Blast

Witnesses at the scene described an image of chaos and destruction — the blast was so powerful it hurled a victim several feet into the air, shattered streetlights and nearby shop windows, and set multiple vehicles ablaze in one of Delhi’s busiest heritage zones.

“The explosion was deafening. Within seconds, flames engulfed nearby cars, and I saw a man being thrown off the ground,” said Rohit Sharma, an eyewitness and shop owner at the Red Fort market.

Scene of Devastation

The site of the explosion resembled a war zone, with scorched vehicles, shattered glass, and scattered debris littering the road.
According to preliminary reports, the blast originated from a Hyundai i20 car, which was stationary at the red light. The vehicle’s fuel tank is suspected to have intensified the explosion, though forensic teams are exploring all angles — including terror links, mechanical failure, or remote triggering.

Rescue teams from the Delhi Fire Service and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) worked through the night to clear the area, while forensic experts combed the site for evidence.

High-Level Security Response

In light of the blast, security in Delhi-NCR has been raised to the highest level.
The Delhi Police, NIA, and NSG bomb disposal units are jointly investigating the incident.
The Lal Quila metro station has been temporarily closed, and the Red Fort monument will remain shut for visitors for three days.

Officials confirmed that the 700-km-long Indo-Nepal border adjoining Bihar has been sealed for 72 hours to prevent any cross-border movement during the ongoing Bihar elections.

Statements from Authorities

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who chaired a high-level meeting early Tuesday morning, condemned the attack and promised a swift investigation.

“All possible angles are being examined. The culprits will be brought to justice,” Shah said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been briefed about the situation and is monitoring developments closely.

Witness Accounts and Rescue Operations

Emergency calls began flooding the Delhi Fire Control Room just after 6:55 PM, following which seven fire tenders were rushed to the scene.

“The flames were as high as 15 feet. The sound of the blast echoed across Chandni Chowk,” said Suman Yadav, a bystander.

Among the debris, one victim was found hanging from a tree branch, flung by the force of the explosion. Authorities are working to identify the deceased through DNA sampling and forensic analysis.

Investigation Underway

Teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) are inspecting car fragments and CCTV footage from surrounding areas.
Officials have detained two individuals believed to be the previous owners of the car, though no official charges have yet been filed.

“It’s too early to conclude whether this was a terror attack or a targeted act,” said Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha.

Public Advisory

Residents have been urged to avoid sharing unverified videos or images of the incident on social media to prevent panic and misinformation. Police have increased patrolling in Old Delhi and nearby localities such as Daryaganj, Chandni Chowk, and Jama Masjid.
