Only Water Found in ₹1 Lakh Cancer Injection: Delhi Crime Branch Busts Alleged Fake Drug Racket
The Delhi Crime Branch has uncovered an alleged multi-state racket involving the black marketing and supply of counterfeit cancer medicines. Police claim that an Avelumab injection sold for around ₹1 lakh contained only water instead of the actual drug. Seventeen people have been arrested in connection with the alleged ₹9-crore network.
A shocking case involving the alleged black marketing and distribution of counterfeit cancer medicines has been uncovered by the Delhi Crime Branch. According to police, the racket was spread across seven states and involved medicines being supplied through multiple illegal channels.
The most alarming finding in the investigation is related to Avelumab, an expensive cancer medicine. Police allege that an injection being sold for around ₹1 lakh contained only water instead of the actual medicine. Such a fake injection could put vulnerable cancer patients at serious risk by depriving them of essential treatment.
The Crime Branch reportedly busted the alleged racket on August 20 and arrested 17 people. Investigators estimate the value of the suspected network at around ₹9 crore.
According to police, the alleged network extended across Delhi-NCR, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Jhajjar, Faridabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad and other locations. The investigation reportedly began after police received confidential information on June 22.
Investigators say the alleged syndicate obtained medicines through different channels, including counterfeit medicines sourced from illegal suppliers. The arrested suspects reportedly include Abhishek Vaishya of Laxmi Nagar, along with Shubham Kumar Chaudhary and Suraj Chaudhary.
Police are now investigating the complete supply chain, the source of the suspected counterfeit medicines and the involvement of other people in the network.
The case has raised serious concerns over the illegal sale of life-saving medicines and the exploitation of cancer patients who are often forced to spend large amounts of money on treatment.
