India Women’s World Cup star Deepti Sharma shared a heartwarming moment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the team’s felicitation at his residence on Wednesday. The all-rounder revealed how she draws motivation from the Prime Minister’s speeches and her personal faith.
During the interaction, Deepti recalled advice from PM Modi in 2017: “You told me that a player is defined by how they pick themselves up and overcome failures. Your words, ‘Keep working hard,’ have guided me, and I truly follow that.” She added, “I often listen to your speeches. The way you handle situations calmly inspires me a lot.”
The conversation took an interesting turn when PM Modi noticed Deepti’s tattoo and asked, “You have a tattoo of Lord Hanuman — how does it help you?”
Deepti responded, “I have more faith in him than in myself, and that helps me a lot personally in improving my game.”
Deepti Sharma had an exceptional tournament, scoring 215 runs with three fifties and taking 22 wickets in nine matches. Her all-round performance, including a crucial 58-run knock and five wickets for 39 runs in the final against South Africa, earned her the Player of the Tournament award.
