Record 65% Turnout in Bihar Phase 1; ECI Rules Out Re-poll, Campaigning Intensifies for Next Phase

Patna, November 8, 2025
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has confirmed that no re-poll has been recommended in any of the 45,341 polling stations that went to polls during the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025. The Commission said its detailed scrutiny of polling-day documents revealed no discrepancies or malpractices.

According to the ECI, the examination of all records from 121 Assembly constituencies was completed on Friday (November 7). Officials described the first phase as “smooth and peaceful,” with no major technical or procedural issues reported.

Bihar recorded a voter turnout of nearly 65%, one of the highest in recent elections, signaling strong public engagement and enthusiasm across the state.

PM Modi to Address Rally in Darbhanga

As campaigning for the second phase of voting intensifies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a rally in Darbhanga on Saturday (November 8). He is also expected to hold public meetings in Sitamarhi and Bettiah, rallying support for NDA candidates.

During a recent address, the Prime Minister hailed the impressive voter turnout as a reflection of people’s faith in the “track record of the Narendra-Nitish partnership.”

Campaigns Gain Momentum Across Bihar

Top political leaders are now focusing on high-stakes constituencies ahead of Phase 2 polling, scheduled for November 11.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President J.P. Nadda, and other senior NDA leaders are conducting back-to-back rallies and roadshows across north and central Bihar.

On the opposition front, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav are jointly addressing large gatherings as part of the Mahagathbandhan’s campaign, targeting the government on unemployment, price rise, and governance issues.

ECI Ensures Transparency

An ECI spokesperson emphasized that the electoral process in Bihar continues to be conducted with “transparency, impartiality, and efficiency.”

“All polling stations were equipped with adequate security and surveillance measures. Phase 1 concluded peacefully, and no re-poll has been deemed necessary after scrutiny,” the official said.

The Commission added that preparations for the second and third phases of polling are already underway, with logistical and security arrangements being reviewed daily.

Voters Set the Tone

With the first phase setting a record voter turnout and no major complaints, analysts say Bihar’s electorate has sent a strong signal of participation and trust in democratic processes. Political observers expect intensified campaigning and fierce contests in the coming rounds as both alliances push to consolidate their voter base.

Voting for the second phase will be held on November 11, and the final phase is scheduled later this month.
