Rohini Acharya Quits Politics, Alleges Family Abuse Over Kidney Donation to Lalu Prasad Yadav

Posting on X, Acharya, 47, accused two close aides of her brother, Tejashwi Yadav, of verbally abusing her and pressuring her to quit politics and sever family ties. She claimed she was “cursed at” for donating a kidney to her father in exchange for money and a party ticket, calling herself “orphaned” by her own family.

“I did what I did to save my God—my father—and today, the kidney is being called ‘dirty.’ May no family ever have a daughter like Rohini,” she wrote. Acharya, a doctor by training, had previously contested the Saran Lok Sabha seat unsuccessfully.

She accused RJD aides Sanjay Yadav and Rameez of sidelining grassroots feedback and handling party affairs poorly, contributing to the party’s historic defeat in the recent Bihar assembly elections, where RJD won only 25 of 243 seats.

In her posts, Acharya advised women not to sacrifice their well-being for male family members, claiming, “To all married women: never save your God-like father if he has a son; let him get his own kidney or that of a friend transplanted.” She described being verbally abused and threatened with physical harm, asserting that she maintained her self-respect despite the humiliation.

Political observers say the RJD family feud has been brewing for some time. State minister Santosh Kumar Suman described the situation as a “raging fire,” criticizing the Yadav family for prioritizing personal ambitions over party unity.

This public fallout comes amid Tej Pratap Yadav’s earlier expulsion from the party and the formation of his new outfit, the Janshakti Janata Dal, which performed poorly in the elections. The internal strife has overshadowed RJD’s campaign, which ended with a significant decline from its previous tally of over 70 seats.

No member of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family has publicly responded to Rohini Acharya’s statements so far. Her departure underscores ongoing tensions within the political dynasty and highlights the personal toll of politics on family relationships.
