Yami Gautam Supports Deepika Padukone’s 8-Hour Workday Request, Calls Time Cap “Pre-Decided”
Mumbai, November 6: Actor Yami Gautam has thrown her support behind Deepika Padukone’s demand for an 8-hour workday on film sets, emphasizing that such arrangements have long existed in the industry. In a conversation with Times Now News, Yami explained that shooting schedules are often pre-agreed between actors, directors, and producers.
“There are actors who shoot for only eight hours a day, five days a week, and avoid night shoots. This has been happening for decades. So why is it suddenly an issue if a female actor requests the same?” she said.
Time Caps in Bollywood: A Collaborative Approach
Yami elaborated that the concept of a time cap in filmmaking is flexible and depends on collaboration.
“As much as we would like a fixed time cap like other fields, ours is different. Locations, permissions, schedules of other actors and technicians—so many factors come into play. For me, it’s always about the understanding between the actor, producer, and director.”
She also highlighted that the conversation about working hours isn’t just about female actors but applies to anyone in the profession.
“At the end of the day, we are human beings creating art under unusual circumstances. If a schedule works for the production, it goes ahead; if it doesn’t, it’s reconsidered. Asking for a time cap shouldn’t be controversial,” Yami added.
Balancing Work and Life
The actor further reflected on the broader perspective of women managing work and personal life:
“Whether a woman is working or a homemaker, every mother is special and does everything she can for her child. Respecting time and wellbeing should be universal, not just gender-specific.”
Yami’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions in Bollywood about fair working hours and better work-life balance for actors, especially women, as the industry continues to modernize its on-set practices.
